Salter runs for Tsunami appeal
|
Reading West MP Martin Salter and his staff have been training to take part in The Osborne Clarke Business Challenge, a corporate relay race which sees teams, made up of four people, run the designated Reading half marathon course on 25th March.
Team ‘Salt of the Earth’, consists of Martin Salter, MP for Reading West, Ann Morgan, Constituency Office Manager, Cara Brown, Parliamentary Researcher, and Alex Crampton, Parliamentary Assistant – who together are hoping to raise £1,000 on behalf of the Reading Initiative for Tsunami Action (RITA). Martin Salter’s caseworker Dr Viki Lloyd will be putting the rest of the office to shame by competing in the full half marathon. RITA, was set up in the wake of the devastation caused by the 2004 South-Asian Tsunami to help with the rebuilding processes in Beruwala, Sri Lanka. Amongst other things, RITA is building 12 new homes and restoring water supplies for homeless families. RITA have helped rebuild a nursery school and a local mosque, and are setting up links between schools in Reading and Sri Lanka to provide long-term support and friendship. Martin Salter said: “My fitness regime is not all it could be and whilst I expect my staff to run the whole distance I suspect my contribution will be a mixture of jogging and strolling as befits a person of my age and physique! I hope we are able to raise our target for this fantastic charity.” 14/03/07 |
