Salter demands power cut compensation for Tilehurst residents
|
Reading West MP, Martin Salter, has taken up the case of his constituents from the bungalows for the elderly and disabled in The Mayfair who were left without electricity for nearly 12 hours due to a recent power cut following a burnt out Scottish and Southern cable.
He has now written to the Chief Executive of Scottish and Southern Energy demanding that an emergency procedure is established to ensure that residents who rely on medical aids and powered lifting hoists for their daily existence are not put at risk but future power cuts. He has also pressed for financial compensation to compensate for monetary loss for residents on pensions and fixed incomes. Martin Salter MP said: “The fit and able can normally get by with candlelight and a takeaway dinner but this is simply not an option if you are wheelchair bound and living on a fixed income. This is not the first time my constituents in The Mayfair have been without power and I am supporting their demand for a proper emergency backup system and appropriate compensation.” The matter was brought to Mr Salter’s attention by local residents’ representative Ray Richens, whose disabled wife Marilyn was one of the people badly affected by the loss of power in her home. 20/06/07 |
