Meeting With Ministe Set to Call For Family Justice
|
Rob Wilson, MP for Reading East, will be leading a delegation of families, whose lives have been devastated by knife crime, to meet with the Solicitor General, Mike O'Brien QC, and the Minister of State at the Home Office, Tony McNulty, on Wednesday 13th December.
The families have all suffered considerable pain and anguish and feel that the Criminal Justice System has let them down. Most have lost loved ones, or had them critically injured, in senseless unprovoked attacks by knife wielding thugs. The meeting is part of a campaign, 'Knives Cost Lives', which calls for tougher sentencing for knife murders and for carrying a knife, plus better education for young people about the risks of carrying knives. The campaign was started by Lucy Davis, sister of Scott Davis (who was brutally stabbed 9 times and died of his injuries in Reading Town Centre), and her local MP Rob Wilson. The campaign has already met with the Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, in July during which he openly wept as the families recounted their stories. The meeting with the Solicitor General will take place at 1pm in his office at 9 Buckingham Gate, SW1E 6JP and the meeting with the Home Office Minister at 4pm at the Home Office, 2 Marsham Street, SW1P 4DP. There will be an opportunity for photographs at 3.50pm at the entrance to the Home Office. Liam, who was angered by this and had identified one the youths as being a local man who lived 100 yards away, pursued him unarmed and argued with him about this vandalism, on the doorstep of the youth’s home.
