Rob Wilson, Member of Parliament for Reading East, visited the Royal Mail, Caversham Road , Reading today, Friday 15 December, to work a shift and speak to some of the frontline staff about the impact of the proposal to close the Caversham Sorting Office.
Rob took part in the early morning sorting process and then undertook a delivery of the Caversham area, including Woodcote Road , Knowle Close, Gurney Drive . During the visit Rob Wilson was also pleased to promote the Royal Mails last postage date for Christmas campaign. This year the last date for guaranteed delivery before Christmas is the 19th December with a 1st class stamp. This is part of Rob’s programme of work experience over the next six months including working as a dustman, a PCSO, and a ‘dinner lady’!” Wilson commented: “I am happy to roll my sleeves up and experience the variety of work on which the community depends. It is important when scrutinising legislation that an MP has a full understand of the lives of their constituents. "That is why I am undertaking a program of work with organisations, both public and private, to get a rounded view. “Maybe a few less negative comments from the Labour Party and bit more real work would bring them back into touch with reality.” 15th December 2006
