Wilson Condemns Great Western Timetable
|
Rob Wilson, Member of Parliament for Reading East, today joined Conservative colleague Ed Vaizey (Wantage) to condemn the chaos caused by First Great Western's new timetable, which has resulted in a reduction in services and overcrowding on trains.
Mr Wilson said: “First Great Western has made one enormous mess of the new timetable by reducing services and increasing costs. "There have been huge rises in fares and the travelling public is often lucky to get a standing space on a train in return. This is not a sustainable position and urgent changes must be made to a service that is effectively being run down. "I cannot understand the rationale for it. The only conclusion I can reach is that FGW has won the franchise and is now only concerned with the huge subsidies it gets from the Government, rather than its hard pressed customers. "We are asking the Department of Transport to take urgent steps to introduce greater capacity to relieve overcrowded commuter trains." |
