Bulmershe School Project is Positive for the Local Community
|
An initiative to improve community sports facilities would, on balance, be a good thing for Woodley, believes Rob Wilson MP, following a meeting with Peter Lewis, Headteacher at Bulmershe School.
The school plans to re-orientate its parking facilities, introduce up to a dozen all weather five a side pitches (alongside private company Power League), build a new changing and bar area and improve safety and security on the site. Rob said: “I have listened carefully to concerns put forward by local residents and Woodley Town Council, and made sure the consultation period was extended so that all views could be heard. "On balance I believe the investment taking place will be good for the whole community and will add a much needed facility for the school and young people in the area. "We are all concerned that facilities for young people in Woodley are thin on the ground, so when an opportunity like this comes along I think we have to grab it. "It will help to channel youthful energy into positive activities. However it is important that disruption to local residents is minimised by ensuring that the facilities are not used at too late an hour and that the possible increase in traffic is managed effectively.” “The vision of Peter Lewis for education at Bulmershe School and a sports campus is first class. "Short of rebuilding the whole school from scratch, his team have come up with a strategy that will deliver both higher quality education and superb sporting facilities. "But the great thing about the vision is that it fully incorporates the local community with Woodley Hammers and, hopefully, Woodley Tennis Club taking part. "It will engage young people in Woodley in a way that gives real opportunities to those that want to take advantage of them.” 16/01/07 |
