Oakwood Centre Charges Price Users Out
|
Rob Wilson, Member of Parliament for Reading East, has been forced out of the Oakwood Centre after a 31% percent price rise for room hire.
The charges for Rob’s two hour advice surgery have been raised from £49.35 in January 2006 to the present charge of £65 an increase in 12 months of 31%. Rob Wilson regularly reviews the cost of running his office to ensure that costs are minimised and the growing cost of the Oakwood Centre booking charges was revealed as an area for further investigation. Mr Wilson will now be holding his surgery in the Woodley Library on the first Saturday of each month between 10am and noon. The new location will ensure that all Woodley residents still have regular access to their MP for help and advice. Rob Wilson commented: “If other organisations have had this massive hike in charges, I expect I will not be the only cancellation that they have had. "I have a duty to ensure that tax payers’ money is spent wisely and the latest Oakwood Centre price increase has forced me to look elsewhere to ensure I am receiving value for money. “It is disappointing that the Liberal Democrat Town Council is pricing the Oakwood Centre out of the market with these high charges. "Woodley residents are already forced to pay over £25 per year towards the centre through their Town Council Tax precept and it is unacceptable that high prices should now act as a barrier to them using the facilities.” 17/01/07 |
