Salter Wrongly Took Credit Says Wilson

Some media outlets may have received a Press Release from Martin Salter MP (Reading West) claiming credit for a meeting on Thursday at the DTI with Postal Services Minister Jim Fitzpatrick about the Royal mail sorting office closure in my reading east const.
This meeting was intiated by me and agreed with the Ministers office. Once the Reading West MP became aware of the meeting he also requested to meet the Minister and it was suggested to me by the Minister's office that I invite other MPs with an interest in the matter; a request that I was happy to agree to. The sequence of events was as follows: 18 January - I raised the issue of the Sorting office with the Sec of State for Trade and Industry who acknowledged that the Minister had already agreed to meet me (See press release below) 22 January - Date confirmed with the Minister's office to meet me 25 January - I wrote to Terry Jackson of the CWU and to Reading Borough Council to invite them to attend the meeting 26 January - I Press Released details of the meeting with the Minister and the fact I had invited the CWU and Reading Borough Council 26 January - Martin Salter wrote to the Minister requesting a meeting copied to Unions and other MPs (copy attached) 29 January - I extended the invitation to Martin Salter (Reading West), Parmjit Dhanda (Gloucs) and David Drew (Stroud) 30 January - A response was received from Reading Borough Council nominating a delegate to the meeting 30/01/07 |
