The Worst Punctuality, The Highest Prices And Overcrowding Add Up To Profit For FGW Trains
|
Rob Wilson, Member of Parliament for Reading East, today criticised First Great Western (FGW) Trains for making big profits that were undeserved and a "slap in the face" for customers. FGW reported yesterday profits of £90 million for the previous financial year.
Rob Wilson said: "I am in favour of good companies making a profit, because they have earned it by providing a good service to their customers. "Great Western Trains has not given a good service - quite the opposite. It has the worst punctuality of any Train Operating Company, the highest prices and some of the worst overcrowding on the entire network. "This performance does not suggest to me that this is a well managed company that is providing a world class service to its customers." At a pre-meeting of Thames Valley MPs on Monday 26th February (before today's meeting with the Secretary of State for Transport), Rob called for their support in asking the Secretary of State to review the FGW franchise. There was unanimous backing for the proposal, which will be made at today's meeting with Douglas Alexander MP. Rob said: "I am delighted that my proposal has the backing of all my fellow Thames Valley MPs. It is only right that FGW is made to take a long hard look at its performance and its ongoing failure to provide a decent service to its customers." 28/02/06 |
