Wilson Presents Food Hamper to Homeless Charity
|
Rob Wilson, Member of Parliament for Reading East, was pleased to visit Hamble Court on Friday evening (24 November) to help present a food hamper to the residents.
The food hamper was collected during the annual Harvest Festival celebration at the Gorse Ride Infant School in Finchampstead where Mrs Bhatt, a trustee of the Childless Widows and Orphans charity, teaches. Hamble Court provides accommodation for thirty five homeless men and women between the ages of 16 and 65, where they can stay for up to two years before moving on to permanent accommodation. While staying at the facilities, the hostel’s excellent support services help residents deal with any alcohol and drugs problems and develop the skills they need to live independently. Rob Wilson commented: “I am delighted that the Gorse Ride School chose Hamble Court for their Harvest Festival donation this year. The residents I spoke with were hugely appreciative of the generosity of the many contributors and particularly the work of Mrs Bhatt whose charity has for the last 5 years also been preparing a free weekly hot meal for them. “It was wonderful to meet some of the individuals whose lives have been turned round by the help and support that Hamble Court has provided them.” Mrs Bhatt commented: “I have been aware of the need for tinned and dry food for the residents of Hamble Court from my weekly visits to the centre with hot food. “When my Headteacher chose Childless Widows & Orphans charity to benefit from the Harvest collection, I requested for specific items that would be of use at Hamble Court .” |
