Benyon: "Labour's new tax is a con"
|
Newbury MP, Richard Benyon commented on Gordon Brown’s Budget after attending a post budget briefing by accountants James Cowper at Newbury Racecourse.
He said: “As usual it is not what you hear in the Budget speech but what you read in the small print that matters. To claim that this is a 2p in the pound give-away budget is dishonest when you realise it is achieved by abolishing the 10p rate and raising NICs for professionals like nurses, doctors and school teachers. "The Corporation Tax cuts for big business have been paid for by raising Corporation Tax for small business with profits below £300,000. No one should be fooled as the effects of this Budget unravel; this is not a tax cutting budget or even a tax neutral budget. It is a tax raising budget with the burden falling on low income groups and small business.” 22/03/07 |
