Local MP makes most of social networking
Reading East MP upgrades site for ‘web 2.0’

Rob Wilson launched his hotly anticipated new site this week and it has been met with praise from constituents and local councillors alike. The site was announced first to Rob’s Facebook supporters, with a subsequent blog post heralding its arrival.

It contains a mountain of information about the Reading East MP, including details of his voting record, debates he has attended, speeches he has made, his expenses claims and even the details of his staff members. The media section is highly interactive with links to Rob’s Facebook page, his YouTube Channel, online photo albums, his blog and contains a forum for constituents to voice their concerns and discuss hot topics. You can also sign-up to the MP’s monthly email newsletter or download his parliamentary reports.

Feedback from constituents has been overwhelmingly positive of the new site, praising it for its innovative design and the wealth of information that can be found on the site about their local MP.

Commenting on the launch of the new site, Rob said, “I’m delighted that we’ve got the site up and running. The new site is highly interactive and incorporates elements of ‘web 2.0’ and social networking. I’ve made great efforts to embrace new media and engage with my constituents, of all ages. Being an effective MP requires your constituents to have a platform to voice their opinions about particular issues and I feel that the new site provides them with that platform.”

“The design has been updated to reflect the feel of the new Conservative Party and modernise the way in which constituents interact with me. I was particularly pleased that my request for my expenses forms and information about my voting record are now more accessible to voters as I feel that we should be open about these issues. The site will be continuously updated and improved, however I am already delighted with the way in which it has been received.”
