Lawyers to see fees halved ... at least !
I got an email yesterday from a pal who read the story about motorists on pistonheads having to pay legal fees even if innocent! But this goes much further and will certainly be one to watch... I think the lawyers will be struggling with this... they’d better get voting...
You can see it now... we WON... my bill... but we WON... no you LOST! The legal dilemma... the law... The Ministry of Justice plan to implement a new costs recovery system from October 2009. Under new rules any defendant acquitted of an offence in the Magistrates' Court will only be reimbursed at prevailing legal aid rates regardless of the level of costs they paid to their lawyers. A petitioner has posted on Number10.gov.uk ... I suggest you sign so that the government have to do something about it or at least listen ! How Petitions works these days You can view and sign any current petitions, and see the Government response to any completed petitions. If you have signed a petition that has reached more than 500 signatures by the time it closes, you will be sent a response from the Government by email. All petitions that are submitted to this website will be accepted, as long as they are in accordance with our terms and conditions. The aim is to enable as many people as possible to make their views known. To ensure transparency, any petition that cannot be accepted will be listed, along with the reasons why. A list of rejected petitions is available on this website. Check out the Five most popular open petitions We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to… • resign. (72207 signatures) • rethink plans to scrap the Employer Supported Childcare scheme (childcare vouchers)(52061 signatures) • prevent local health centres and hospitals from using 08 numbers such as 0844, 0845 or 0870 (45789 signatures) • reconsider the decision to remove British Forces Post Offices from mainland europe. (42983 signatures) • apologize for the prosecution of Alan Turing that led to his untimely death (31964 signatures) Not sure they pay much attention Government pay to these pettions if the top one is anything to go by ... 72,000 is almost the total number of people in the UK who bothered to vote in the last election! I was watching Question Time last night ... funny how we get our attention diverted when behind the scenes we are being completely underminded by Europe. |
